QUINTE CONSERVATION PARKING PASSES AVAILABLE FOR LOAN THROUGH LOCAL LIBRARIES
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: December 20, 2018
QUINTE CONSERVATION PARKING PASSES AVAILABLE FOR LOAN THROUGH LOCAL LIBRARIES Quinte Conservation Area Parking Passes are now available for loan through public libraries located in the Quinte Conservation Watershed and within Hastings and Prince Edward Counties. With support from Healthy Kids Community Challenge Hastings Prince Edward (HKCC HPE) and municipal public libraries throughout the region, Quinte Conservation has been able to implement a library loan program for Conservation Area Parking Passes. In September of 2018, the Conservation Authority started collecting parking fees from users in an effort to generate funds to support the constant maintenance needed to keep the areas open, safe, and accessible to the public. Public feedback recognized a financial barrier to some residents. Education and Stewardship Coordinator, Maya Navrot says, “We are very excited to be partnering with HKCC HPE and local libraries, so that we can offer a program to residents that may help ease any financial barriers currently deterring individuals from visiting our conservation areas.” The HKCC HPE wanted to sponsor the cost of the passes. “The HKCC HPE was pleased to partner with Quinte Conservation to improve access to the wonderful outdoor spaces available within our community,” says Sheryl Farrar, Program Manager at Hastings Prince Edward Public Health, which helped manage HKCC. “We are encouraging members of the community to take advantage of the opportunity to get outside, enjoy nature, and be active all year long.” Parking passes have been sent to all libraries within Hastings and Prince Edward counties. For more information or to find out about the loan period, contact your local library. …continued on page 2…
