QUINTE CONSERVATION INTRODUCES NEW TRAIL STEWARDSHIP PROGRAM
Adopt a Trail is Quinte Conservation’s newest volunteer program that aims to bring like-minded individuals together to help maintain the hiking trails at some of Quinte’s 23 conservation areas.
Quinte Conservation Education and Stewardship Coordinator Maya Navrot says, “We have such a diverse trail system throughout our watershed. Trails are always in need of some kind of work, whether it is maintaining the trails through pruning or collecting garbage that gets left behind. Unfortunately we don’t have the staff power to be on every trail all the time.”
Navrot adds, “We hope that by introducing this new initiative, we’ll get some dedicated individuals, who enjoy spending time in nature and at our conservation areas, to come on board and volunteer to be a trail steward.”
Adopt a Trail is for anyone that enjoys being outdoors. Volunteers will work with staff to find a trail that is best suited for them. The duties of the trail steward will be to help take care of their assigned trail. This includes cleaning brush off the trails, pruning shrubs and trees along the trail, and picking up any garbage that they find.
