QUINTE CONSERVATION DOWNGRADES MOIRA, SALMON, AND NAPANEE RIVER WATERSHEDS TO FLOOD WATCH
The Quinte Conservation Watershed received approximately 20 mm of rain on Friday, April 26, which was lower than forecasted. This amount of precipitation did not increase water levels on the Moira River. The Salmon and Napanee Rivers responded to the rainfall and water levels have since peaked.
All water levels on rivers and inland lakes throughout the watershed have peaked. Water levels will continue to decline despite forecasts for small amounts of low intensity rainfall.
Moira Region water levels:
The Black River at Actinolite peaked on April 21
The Skootamatta River at Actinolite, and the Moira River at Deloro and Tweed peaked on April 22
The Clare River Peaked on April 23
The Moira River at Foxboro peaked on April 24
Stoco Lake and Moira Lake on the Moira River peaked April 23
Moira and Stoco Lakes did not exceed 2014 or 2017 water levels.
Napanee Region water levels:
Depot Creek and the Napanee River at Camden East peaked April 21
The Salmon River at Tamworth peaked April 27
Horseshoe Lake on the Salmon River peaked April 23
Beaver Lake peaked on April 27
Beaver and Horseshoe Lakes exceeded 2017 water levels but did not exceed the high water levels experienced in 2014.
Many localized road washouts have been reported throughout the Quinte Watershed. The public is advised to obey any posted road closure signs and to contact their municipality for updates on closures.
Staff will continue to monitor conditions and will provide an update if forecasts and conditions change. For current water levels or to report any observations of flooding, residents are encouraged to visit QuinteConservation.ca.
A Flood Watch statement notifies that the potential for flooding exists within specific watercourses and municipalities. Municipalities, emergency services and individual landowners in flood-prone areas should prepare.
This message will be in effect until (or updated if anything significant changes before) Thursday, May 9, 2019.
