FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: July 14, 2017
QUINTE CONSERVATION CONTINUES TO PROVIDE ADVICE FOR SHORELINE REPAIR WORK CAUSED BY FLOODING.
Due to recent flooding events on the Bay of Quinte and Lake Ontario, many shoreline residents have experienced severe erosion to their shorelines. Residents who have had damage to their properties should be advised that staff at Quinte Conservation is on hand to provide free technical advice and assist with issuing permits. Quinte Conservation Planning and Regulations Manager Paul McCoy says, “Staff are available to guide landowners through the permitting process.”
McCoy adds, “Staff have been monitoring and actively visiting properties for the past month. Many permits have been issued already as water levels continue to decline.”
Quinte Conservation encourages residents experiencing flooding to report their conditions and seek shoreline protection advice by calling the office at (613) 968-3434 or by using an online form. The form can be found at: https://www.cognitoforms.com/QuinteConservation1/_2017LakeOntarioAndBayOfQuinteHighWaterSurvey or on the main page of the Quinte Conservation website at www.QuinteConservation.ca
Generally within two weeks of inquiry, Quinte Conservation staff will complete a site inspection. At this time, staff will recommend shoreline protection options and help guide landowners through the permitting process. Permits can generally be processed within 2-3 weeks.
As of July 12, 2017, water levels on Lake Ontario were 17 centimetres lower then when the lake peaked on May 29, 2017. Lake levels are expected to generally decline throughout the summer as is typical for this time of year. However, lake levels may slightly rise temporarily due to rain or high winds.
