FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

NO FLOODING FOR QUINTE CONSERVATION RIVERS EXPECTED; BAY OF
QUINTE AND LAKE ONTARIO MAY HAVE VARYING LEVELS
In spite of recent record rainfall of 32 millimetres yesterday, Quinte Conservation does not expect flooding on the rivers,
lakes and streams within their watersheds. General Manager Terry Murphy says, “This rain should have a very minimal
impact on inland lakes, rivers, and streams. Residents may see slight increases in lake levels over the weekend as the rain
makes its way through the system.”
A Flood Warning remains in effect for shorelines on the Bay of Quinte and Lake Ontario in the Quinte Conservation
watersheds.
Murphy adds, “Those living on the shorelines of the Bay of Quinte and Lake Ontario should continue to see shifting and
changing water levels with very little decrease over the next several weeks.”
All residents near flooded areas should take care during flooding conditions. Floodwater may be deeper and faster flowing
than it appears and often contains hidden snags and debris. Parents and caregivers should keep children well away from
floodwaters. They are not safe for wading.
Quinte Conservation staff will be monitoring conditions closely.
A Flood Warning means flooding is imminent or already occurring in specific watercourses or municipalities. Municipalities
and individuals should take action to deal with flood conditions. This may include road closures and evacuations.
This message will be in effect until (or updated before) Thursday, June 8, 2017.
