FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: September 12, 2017
LOCAL TEACHERS MAKE DONATION TO QUINTE CONSERVATION’S EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMS
Quinte Conservation would like to recognize the generous donation in support of educational programs from the local chapter of ADK Lambda - International Honorary Organization for Women Educators.
Part of their donation sponsored one of the very popular Wild About Wildlife events in 2017. Their efforts help to make these educational events free for the public. ADK member Kathryn Crawford said, “The Wild About Wildlife event in July was a fabulous program for teaching children about wildlife in our environment. Approximately 400 children had opportunity to learn about water drainage from Quinte Conservation’s enviroscape model, identify local bugs, and talk to experts while observing fascinating creatures like native snakes and birds of prey.”
The rest of the donation from ADK Lambda will support Quinte Conservation’s other educational programs including Stream of Dreams and Yellow Fish Road.
Crawford adds, “ADK Lambda chapter is a local group of teachers whose main interest is to provide exciting educational opportunities to children. During this coming school year, classes of students may participate in popular activities like Stream of Dreams, where children can paint their own dream fish for their schools fence, and Yellow Fish Road where they learn to care for our natural water bodies like rivers, creeks, and lakes.”
Quinte Conservation’s educational programs are open to schoolboards, camps, and organizations in the Quinte Conservation Watershed. These popular programs book up fast. For more information or to book Stream of Dreams at your school, contact Maya Navrot, Education and Stewardship Coordinator.
ADK or Alpha Beta Kappa is an international organization of women teachers with the mandate of promoting excellence in education as well as altruism and world understanding. The local chapter hosts fundraisers like fashion shows, and gives out annual awards to young teachers in the Quinte area. Their focus is specifically for the good of schools, communities and the teaching profession.
