COMMUNITY SEEDLING GIVEAWAY
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: April 17, 2019
COMMUNITY SEEDLING GIVEAWAY
Multiple municipalities will be joining the Community Trees initiative, supported by the Hastings Stewardship Council and Quinte Conservation, for a seedling giveaway on Saturday, April 27th. A variety of species, paid for by each municipality, will be given to members of these communities to encourage the planting of native trees on urban and rural properties.
“The benefits of planting trees on your property are endless,” says Maya Navrot, Quinte Conservation Education and Stewardship Coordinator. “Planting trees help to clean air and lock up carbon, slow and filter runoff, replenish groundwater, enhance habitat for wildlife, as well as increase property value and improve your family’s general health.”
As quantities of seedlings are limited, each family will be permitted a maximum number of seedlings, decided by each municipality. People are asked to bring a pail or bags to carry their seedlings home in and be prepared to plant them soon afterward.
