9-1-1 ADDRESS SIGNS INSTALLED AT ALL SIX BELLEVILLE DAMS
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: November 22, 2018
9-1-1 ADDRESS SIGNS INSTALLED AT ALL SIX BELLEVILLE DAMS
Quinte Conservation has recently installed twelve 9-1-1 address signs at all six of Belleville’s water control structures. This project was made possible through collaboration between The City of Belleville Fire & Emergency Services and Quinte Conservation. The purpose of the signs is to increase public safety and awareness around the water control structures in Belleville.
Water Resources Manager Christine McClure says, “Public safety around dams is a priority for us. Having these signs at our structures is one more thing we are able to do to help keep the public safe and aware of their location in the event of an emergency.”
There are twelve signs in total, two at each dam that identify an east or west shoreline location. Each sign includes an emergency number, name of the dam, and address.
McClure adds, “The signs are found near each dam. Individuals near these water control structures should familiarize themselves with the details on each sign in case an emergency were to occur. The purpose of the signs is so that the public can properly identify their location to emergency responders regardless of whether the incident is happening in the water or along the shoreline.”
The six water control structures in Belleville include:
Arthur Holgate Dam
George and Lois Wishart Dam
Harry Mulhall Dam
Belleville Yardmen Dam
J.H. McLeod Dam
Lott Dam
Quinte Conservation reminds the public to always exercise caution near water and to obey posted signs near and around water control structures. Stay off the dam structures unless the area is clearly marked for public travel. Be alert to changes in water levels.
