Multiple municipalities will be joining the Community Trees initiative, supported by the Hastings Stewardship Council and Quinte Conservation, for a seedling giveaway on Saturday, April 27th. A variety of species, paid for by each municipality, will be given to members of these communities to encourage the planting of native trees on urban and rural properties.

FLOOD WATCH ISSUED FOR QUINTE CONSERVATION WATERSHED
Approximately 35 – 65 mm of rainfall is expected from Thursday to Saturday throughout the Quinte Conservation Watershed. There is uncertainty in the storm track and in exactly how much rain will be received, but it is possible that some regions may experience more than the anticipated 65 mm. Most of the rain is expected Friday and into Saturday morning.

Late last week, the Provincial Government announced a 50% cut to Section 39 transfer payments given to the 36 conservation authorities across Ontario for natural hazard programs. QUINTE CONSERVATION’S FLOOD OUTLOOK STATEMENT CONTINUES
Temperatures in the double digits are expected across the watershed from Saturday to Tuesday. This will cause most of the measured and modeled snow, which contains 100 mm of water, at the headwaters of the Moira and Salmon Rivers to melt.
This snowmelt has the potential to increase river flows to normal, spring high water levels late next week.
