QUINTE CONSERVATION EXTENDS FLOOD OUTLOOK DUE TO ONGOING SPRING FRESHETS
This media release is an extension of the March 16th Flood Outlook Statement.
Weather forecasts for the Quinte Conservation Watershed predict dry but warm conditions from Friday to Sunday, with warming temperatures expected to stay above zero until Monday. QUINTE CONSERVATION ISSUES A WATER SAFETY STATEMENT DUE TO LARGE AMOUNTS OF RAIN EXPECTED THROUGHOUT THE REGION
Local weather forecasts are predicting 40-50 mm of mixed precipitation, including rain changing to snow, throughout the Quinte Conservation Watershed Wednesday night and throughout Thursday. The Quinte Watershed is forecasted to receive 25 mm or more of rain over the weekend. That, coupled with very mild temperatures, will melt snow and create runoff, causing elevated river flows and swelling in streams and rivers.
Some isolated nuisance flooding is likely around small watercourses, urban areas, and ditches.

A widespread large rain event that occurred late last week brought, on average, 70 mm of precipitation to the Quinte region Watersheds. Some regions north of HWY 7, in particular the Black River watershed, received over 130 mm of rain. This significant rainfall resulted in a rapid rise in flows in the Black River, and to a lesser extent the Upper Moira, and Skootamatta Rivers.
