February 25, 2010 - RESTORATION WORK HAS STARTED AT BAKELITE PROPERTY
Restoration work has started at the Bakelite Property in the east end of Belleville.
Mr. Jim Sinclair has a contractor on site to carry out work that was ordered by the judge following charges on the site. The work that is currently being carried out is to return the site to the condition it was in prior to the violations.
Work being carried out will include; • removal of contaminated sediment from the bay • removal of the rock berm that was constructed across the bay • removal of fill from the floodplain • restoration of the natural drainage on the property
Quinte Conservation is working closely with Ministry of Environment and Department of Fisheries and Oceans and is providing monitoring and enforcement of the work order. Quinte Conservation is hopeful that all work will be done before the spring break up.
